Genuine regional food with locally sourced, organic ingredients and chefs who take pride in adding something extra special to every dish. From family-owned authentic Greek tavernas on the shore to international cosmopolitan hubs, to traditional bakeries with daily fresh handmade pies, here are the best restaurants in Skiathos
1. The Borzoi
One of the best restaurants in Skiathos and definitely the most cosmopolitan and stylish club-restaurants in the region. The Borzoi is nested in the heart of the Town of Skiathos and has a unique story that dates back to the early 90s, because the building that hosts The Borzoi was originally an olive press, a “taliagria”, one of the first that ever operated in Skiathos.
A Cosmopolitan International Hub
In 1977 the old olive press was revived as a bar-taverna. During the glorious days of Skiathos in the 70s-90s local & international celebrities, world leaders and royals frequented the island and The Borzoi became a cosmopolitan nightlife hub. The club’s reputation expanded not only within the borders of Greece but also throughout the world.
In 2015 Savas Damianides, one of the island’s patrons, purchased the establishment intending to bring it back to its old glory days. The gorgeous structure and garden were re-vamped, honoring the architectural style and culture of the island. You can see the olive oil plates in the pitch by the inside bar. The old olive press still sits in the center of the building, in the main club area.
The Borzoi got its name from the previous owner, whose beloved pet was a dog of the borzoi breed. The logo depicts him with the name “The Borzoi Club” circled around and the inscription “Established in 1978″.
Location
Centrally located in the heart of Skiathos Town, nested among the colorful, picturesque cobble-paved streets, The Borzoi is only a few minutes from the waterfront and very easy to walk to from anywhere in the town.

What to eat at The Borzoi restaurant
“A combination of pure, fresh Mediterranean ingredients along with inspirations from different countries around the world, is what drives the primary focus of our critically acclaimed kitchen that has been long known as the finest on the island” explains the executive Chef Sofie Hatzieleftheriou. “At The Borzoi we have done our utmost to recreate the whole dining experience by turning it into a ritual that truly aims to amplify the senses and cleansing the soul.”
The menu is a foodie’s paradise! From Greek/Asian fusion dishes to organic salads, homemade pasta dishes, a huge selection of mezes, and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, the cuisine here is a foodie’s paradise.
I had the quinoa salad with cranberries, topped by the Chef’s secret Mediterranean mango dressing which is delicious. The Chef is very open to creating customized vegan options for the guests of The Borzoi, so as my entree I enjoyed the shitake mushroom pappardelle, and asked them to lose the cheese and butter. The result was delicious and memorable! There was a subtle aftertaste of truffle that lets you relish the flavors and aromas for minutes.
The Cocktails of Borzoi
The main bar is located in the beautifully decorated courtyard garden, and is one of the hotspots of Skiathos. If you are looking for louder music and a more dense crowd, there is a smaller bar in the main building.
The bartenders here are masters at mixology and the art of cocktail making. All cocktails are made with fine spirits, fresh fruit and agave. You can enjoy them with your dinner, or with a shisha pipe under the moonlight.
My favorite cocktails on The Borzoi menu are the Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri, the Porn Star Passion fruit Martini, the Frozen Mohito and Rika’s Passion Mastic.
2. Bakaliko Seaside Restaurant
AKA as “To Bakaliko tis Paralias” which means “Deli by the beach”, this beautiful seaside tavern is one of the best and most famous restaurants in Skiathos. Bakaliko stands out for its incredible location, the traditional immaculately prepared Greek dishes and the unique, authentic decorations that transport you to Greece in the 1950s. With a menu featuring an endless stream of appetizers, wines, ouzos, Greek beers and traditional “Magirefta” dishes like Stuffed Tomatoes and Briam, accompanied by sweeping views of the water and the surrounding shores, this is definitely one of the best restaurants in Skiathos and an experience you mustn’t miss!
However, my favorite thing about Bakaliko is all the new kitty friends I made… the owners have gone to great lengths to rescue, neuter, and adopt stray kitties in need throughout the years. The result is the most magical kitty seaside experience you will ever have! Beautiful, happy, kind kitties pass by the tables, lie down in the sun, or patiently wait for Gery, the delightful and very attentive manager of Bakaliko to feed them in their separate little plates.
Bakaliko Restaurant Location
On a lovely seaside walk from the New Port towards the airport, about five minutes from the Town of Skiathos Bakaliko is located right on the water’s edge. This idyllic spot offers stunning sea views of the sapphire waters, the town roof-line, the lingering yachts and the nearby green islets.

Bakaliko: A Greek Deli from the 1950s
Bakaliko means Deli in Greek. Indeed, walking through the premises of Bakaliko will transport you to a Greek deli of the 1950s! With traditional products that date decades back, still intact in their original packaging, it is worth taking a brief tour of the shelves and cabinets for a unique experience of an old-style Greek grocery store.

We tried all of the vegetable dishes and enjoyed every one of them. You can order family-style meze plates and a couple of entrees that you can pair with some ouzo or Greek beer.

Mamma Mia bakery offers a wide variety of handmade, traditional Greek and local Skiathitian products like bread, cakes, pastries and deli items. What to eat at Mamma Mia Bakery
We enjoyed coming here every day to taste something new during our one-week stay in Skiathos and we loved that Mamma Mia bakery offers a wide variety of plant-based pies, cookies, coffees, and shakes. You probably know that Greece is famous for its incredible Olive Oil which has been a key ingredient in Greek cuisine since ancient times. Unfortunately, in many modern Greek bakeries nowadays, butter has replaced olive oil as a more affordable, addictive, and easy solution. Thankfully, at Mamma Mia Bakery, this is not the case…
Here is a list of our favorite things to eat at Mamma Mia bakery in Skiathos town:
- “Hortopita”: traditional Greek dandelion pie made with olive oil and local, seasonal greens this delicious pie was my daily addiction.
2. “Loukoumas” Greek giant donut made with olive oil and sprinkled sugar on top, this traditional Greek giant donut is extra fluffy and delicious. Perfect to accompany your morning Greek coffee at Mamma Mia bakery.
3. “Rollo Canellas” Greek Cinnamon roll, vegan, fresh and extra light, if you are looking for a sweet pastry snack, try the vegan cinnamon roll here at Mamma Mia bakery.
4. “Koulouria” Greek sesame bread rings, incredibly crunchy on the outside with an amazingly soft center, these Greek bread rings covered with toasted sesame seeds are definitely one of the most popular street food one can find in Greece. Pick from a huge selection of different types of wheat, flour, sesame toppings, sizes and shapes.
You can get creative and top them up with some organic, raw, local tahini homemade in the neighboring town of Volos for extra taste and protein.
Mamma Mia Bakery also offers a wide range of coffees, bread, fresh juices, and packaged local products like sour cherry dessert, local Tahini, Extra Virgin Olive oils, and almond spreads. It might not be an actual restaurant but the food is so delicious and fresh that I felt compelled to share it with you and to add it to my list of the Best Restaurants in Skiathos Town.
I hope you enjoyed my recommendations for the Best restaurants in Skiathos.
