This delicious, easy to make, homemade strawberry-pomegranate liqueur is perfect for any dinner table, or as a gift! It is easy to prepare, with all-natural ingredients, and it tastes like little drops of strawberry heaven!
Whenever I come home, I always visit my favorite Italian restaurant. Not so much for the yummy dishes, but for the final little treat of heaven that the owner always sends us at the end: a shot of Fragolino, an Italian strawberry-infused liqueur.
This specific one comes in a glass, berry shaped bottle, containing a deep pink liquor with little strawberries and seeds at the bottom. I have searched for this bottle in several Greek and New York Liquor stores with no avail. All I could find was some so-called ‘Strawberry infused’ liquids that, when tasted, seemed very artificial and sugary. No little strawberries inside, no natural flavor, no little shots of heaven.
So I took matters into my own hands. My friend Greg who is a professional mixologist/bartender came to the rescue, and we created this yummy version of Fragolino made with seasonal fruit and natural ingredients to spice up our dinner table. It is super easy to make, with the purest ingredients, packed with antioxidants, and, trust me, your guests will be very impressed…
What you will need:
For 1lt of liquor you will need:
- 1lt mason jar
- 700ml of good quality vodka
- 400-500gr of fresh or frozen strawberries
- 250gr of unprocessed brown sugar or agave syrup
- 50ml of water to dilute the alcohol levels
- Half a pomegranate in seeds. This gives the liquor a deep, red, festive color and a tint of pomegranate flavor. It also infuses it with extra antioxidant strength.
- 4 orange and 4 lime peels to enrich the flavors. Wash your fruit well, and cut only the skin in very thin peels, avoiding the white, inner layer which has a bitter flavor.
- You can also add some Mastiha drops for extra flavor. Mastiha is a natural product that comes from the resin of the Mastic tree that only grows on the Greek island Chios, and, like other natural resins, it is produced in “tears” or droplets.

Preparation:
Add the strawberries in your jar, pouring the vodka and water in top. Add the sugar or Agave syrup followed by the orange and lime peels and the Mastiha drops, shake for a few seconds so the whole mix infuses into one and then leave the jar in a shady place in your home, that is not too warm or too cold. Room temperature is ideal.
Remember to shake it once or twice a week. That helps the sugar dissolve faster.
After 30 days your liquor is ready! All you need to do is strain the fruit with a coffee filter or strainer. If you are like me and love the look of little strawberries in the bottle, then you can leave some fruit inside. It makes your liquor look extra special, and gives it a beautiful, homemade look.*

* If you leave some fruit inside for decoration, the liquor will need to consume it within a week or two, otherwise, the fruit might give a sour taste to it. The strawberry seeds do not affect the taste, so leave those in. Without the fruit, the liquor has no expiration date.
